Hello.. We are relocating to the Windsor area. I am bit nervous and looking for someone to tell me what it is like to live there? What is there to do and see? What is life like in a smaller NC town? and my daughter needs to know how far to the nearest Walmart? lol Is there anything to keep a teenager busy? After the flood how is the little town fairing? I would love to maybe have a female mid age person to talk to before moving. Please Blog all info you have. Thank you so much and hope to see you with in 6 months!!!

If you don't mind answering where are you relocating from? It'll help gauge the level of culture shock you and your family should expect.

Good luck is all I can say. Why on earth would you move a place without knowing what it is like ? Hope you have a job because NE NC is poor.

Windsor is very very small and as runnerguy45 stated is in a poor area, especially Bertie county where it is located. There is very little to do or see and most folks travel to Williamston or Ahoskie just to get out of town. Sadly, I couldn't say I would recommend Windsor to anyone.

City-data's own database on Windsor should be enough to convince you to move to Williamston instead. I would never, ever move to Williamston but it is a sight bit better than Windsor.

Came across this and noticed it was never responded to...

A further analysis of the data clearly shows that 955 of 3,579 people are incarcerated in a State Prison located on the outskirts of Windsor. Considering this is a maximum security prison, it really skews the demographics on this website...something that should likely be changed when city data is giving out info, in my opinion, anyway. For all intents and purposes, these folks are not part of the actual community.

I'd point out the crime rate for Windsor in 2009...at 138 when the national average was over 270. Windsor is actually an extremely affordable, safe place to live. It also boasts one of the lower municipal tax rates in the state at .143....for comparison most Raleigh area municipalities are between .38 and .56.
