Legislation filed Tuesday by U.S. Rep. Walter B. Jones, R-N.C., would overturn new rules for controlling access to the Cape Hatteras National Seashore.

The legislation would also erase a 2008 U.S. District Court consent decree that settled a lawsuit filed by environmental groups and mandated measures to restrict access, particularly for off-road vehicles

Pandering to shore up the Dare and surrounding republican vote since he'll likely lose Camp Lejeune in redistricting.

I'm curious, where did you get the information about re-districting? Which representative would gain the Camp Lejeune area?

The state legislature. (http://www.ncleg.net/gis/randr07/Base_Data/BaseData2011.html - broken link)

Onslow would go to the 7th to get McIntyre out, but the whole thing is up in the air pending the usual legal battle over gerrymandering. The latest Rucho-Lewis map has Onslow still in the 3rd but it's not a given at this point. The 7th district has a Cook PVI of R+5 but a Republican hasn't held it since Reconstruction. Jones himself has run afoul of the party the past few years over his opposition to the Iraq War and support for Ron Paul.

Thanks. I'm new to the district, and it's an ugly battle.
