We are planning on purchasing a home in Wilmington in the next year as a second home for vacationing and moving to in a few years. I was wondering if anyone has any opinions about the Monkey junction area? I have seen a few new home developments in the area? Does anyone know anything about Deer crossing, tall ships, or any other recommendations?

Thanks!

It's a busy commercial corridor, but maybe if you get off the main roads and closer to Carolina Beach it would be nicer. I personally would not find it relaxing.

I looked at the web site for Deer Crossing and Tall Ships. While they look attractive, they are mostly 2-story homes. If you are planning for retirement, would you prefer a one story or master-on-main house? If so, you might look at Tanbridge Park, Covil Crossing and The Village at Motts Landing. The last two communities by Premier Homes are advertising as "retirement smart".

What type of home and price range are you looking for?

We are looking for 2 story homes, not at retirement age yet. I did not explain that well! Sorry. We are in the under $250k range but wanted to be close to the beach. We are looking for warmer weather and less snow!!! We have visited a few times and like the Wilmington area. I would rather build new than purchase an older home. Is the Monkey junction area prone to flooding? Deer crossing is near a stream and inter coastal water way?
Thanks for your help!

I'll let someone else answer whether Monkey Junction is prone to flooding, as I haven't lived nearby long enough.

Deer Crossing looks to be up on a hill maybe a mile or more from the water, and I don't think I'd be concerned about flooding there. Tall Ships Lane looks a few thousand yards from water (the ICW). Obviously, before you buy you would need to compare the exact address to a flood zone map.
