I'm traveling to Corolla, NC this Friday evening from Central NJ and wanted to know what the quickest route is? Several people have said Rt.95 to Rt.64 in VA, while others are suggesting Rt.13 thru DE, MD & VA. I'm confused...any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

hey Cliff,
The quickest route for you would probably be the Rt. 13 south through Delaware, MD, and VA, but be advised the toll to cross the Chesapeake Bay Bridge tunnel is $12 each way unless you go back through in less than 24 hrs. I've been from Philly to NC through the Rt. 95 and Rt. 13 ways and the Rt. 13 trip is about an hour shorter even though you have lots of stop lights. It is a much more direct route. My son is attending college in eastern PA so we go fairly frequently. I must admit though the $24 in tolls just to cross the CBBT is quite steep. There are a couple of other tolls as well. Once you get on the southern side of CBBT take Rt. 13 to I64 East (inner loop or towards Chesapeake, VA) Then take Rt. 168 South to the Outer Banks. There is another toll on this road $2 each way. You're talking $30 in tolls between Del. and VA. There are ways around some of the tolls but they add time to the trip. Follow Rt. 168 south to Rt. 158 and then 158 to Rt. 12 North follow Rt. 12N to Corolla.

Thanks for the info. I heard the speed limit on Rt.13 is strictly enforced.

I would advise you to take Route 13 down the Eastern Shore..I currently reside in Baltimore just off of i95 and am here to tell you that the tolls are worth every penny of not having to deal with Washington DC traffic.. You could also take DE 1 Toll Road ($4 total) with a minimum speed of 65 to south of Dover where it merges back with 113 the exit for DE 1 toll is the Christiana Mall Road Exit on I95... and you could pick up 13 there or a bit further south in Milford. I drove to the Outer Banks this summer and I drove down the Eastern Shore..it is a bit more scenic and a better drive than I95 in my opinion. Make sure you slow down in the small towns in MD/VA on Route 13. Enjoy your trip to the Outer Banks. EZ Pass is accepted in DE, the Chesapeake Expressway as mentioned in a previous post and starting in the fall (not sure exactly when) on the Bay Bridge Tunnel..

I am traveling from Anchorage Alaska to western Pennsylvania and am looking for the shortest route and fastest to get out of Canada ( because of the gas prices) to get there. Hope someone can help.
