On a smaller scale, Dollar Tree, did not want to open a store in Havelock because they thought it would cannibalize their stores in MHC and New Bern. They only bit the bullet when Walmart moved in.

I don't think people realize how much money is in that area. Maybe because people there aren't flashy with it. Then you have the thousands of military families in Havelock with guaranteed check every 1st and 15th. The money might be made just with people from Craven County no longer having to drive to Jacksonville, MHC, or New Bern to spend money.

Craven Thirty

What is the progress on this project?

I'm disappointed that the developers or the City of New Bern couldn't make this happen a little closer to Downtown or better yet redevelop some older developments along US 17 Business. New Bern has the potential to be a great resort and retirement city.

The prospects for turning the clear cut, but rapidly regrowing woods into a shooting range are more promising.

The folks in the golf club community, across US 70 went nuts about storm drainage and haven't heard much from Craven Thirty since.

You would have thought it was Augusta National, or something. I bet they make them wear shirts there, too, over there.

Riding by, Craven Thirty does not look all that promising at the moment.

The developer, Fletcher Bright, does not list Craven Thirty among their current projects.

New Developments | Fletcher Bright

They do appear to be having trouble securing anchor tenants.

"Downey said Interactive Digital Media, which is involved in movie production, financing and distribution of digital gaming and films, had proposed building a studio on 235 acres in Craven Thirty and creating 60 jobs in the area. The company is now planning to build a studio in Raleigh."

I don't ever see this project taking off. The cheap/broke locals would never financially support it. They'd be better off building it in Morehead City. People are always out spending money there. New Bern? Not so much.........
