"Nine months after Hurricane Irene devastated hundreds of homes in Pamlico County, an army of volunteers from 42 states will begin arriving here Friday for more than a week of rebuilding and repairing.

Steve Tybor, president of Eight Days of Hope, a Christian-based volunteer organization headquartered in Mississippi, said Wednesday that about 1,600 volunteers are expected. The base camp is at Camp Seafarer, where the workers will assemble early Saturday and begin eight days of relief efforts."
