This thread will be informational on the distances (in both avg. time and miles) Greenville is from another city, the beach, mountains, etc.

For Ex.

Greenville to Raleigh=1 hour and 33 minutes, 85.1 miles

To Greenville Posters, please post other cities timing and miles in the same format as above. This thread is pure informational as the times may vary per person.

Thank you for complying

-BMOREBOY

SN: Give thanks to Goldenage1 for the topic idea.

Greenville to Winston-Salem = 186 miles, about 3 hours.

I live in W-S now...get tired of having to say "Greenville, NC" since Greenville, SC is closer to here. lol.

So are you hoping to end up with the distances to every city in the world? I'm really curious about places like Ulan Bator, or Antananarivo, or Beehive, Alabama. Can't wait until we get to those!

By the way, wouldn't it be a heckuva lot easier just to google a distance calculator to find whatever particular city you're interested in?

City-data is used largely by people considering relocating from one town to a new one. There is nothing wrong with having a resource like this thread available in this forum so they can have a one-stop place for information. People can have a better perspective of Greenville's location in terms of actual time. Some people may not even think of this topic until they actually move here. This is meant to be helpful, and I would assume people will be resonable in what they list.

^ Thanks Phil. I guess you missed the winky in my post.

But even so, how long would it take someone to look at a map and figure out where Greenville is located, vs. reading the posts in this thread and trying to picture it in their minds using only the distances posted? Seems like going around your elbow to get to your thumb.

I didn't miss the winky. I wouldn't have posted if you hadn't tacked on the sentence afterward. People don't always think about logistics of a possible new home until they get there. Several times I've been asked how far it is to the beach from Greenville and gotten a shocked response because people think that it is a half hour from the Atlantic. It's not. A general look at a map can mislead you. This site is more for relocators. They're thinking about day-to-day, but might not realize the overall logistics of doing things beyond Greenville. Most interesting things are more than a hour away. Why not have a one-stop place to reference?

Are you presuming that people can't figure out Google Maps or other such sites?
