I will be staying for about 4-6 days in the outer bank just before Labor Day. It will be just my wife and my son. Renting a house will be overkill for us, so I suppose we will have to stay in a hotel or inn. Any suggestions (both the town and the hotel)?
I prefer to stay in a house in a quiet area rather than a big commercial establishment like a hotel. Do they have houses that can be shared among different groups of guests?

How about a small condo in Duck? I used VRBO.com and found a 2BR sound-side condo for $850/per week at the end of August. The complex has a pool and boat launch.

Budget Travel mag mentioned this place in their latest issue. We're thinking about checking it out in October. Outer Banks Cottage Rentals - Atlantic Street Inn .Sorry , can't get the link to work. You will LOVE the OBX.

You can some times get short weeks at houses. Just contact the rental agencies and see what they might have in short weeks. I believe there are a few B&B's in the OBX, you could check that out too.
