Hi,

We're planning a day trip to the beach near Wilmington (during the week). I know it will be crowded b/c it's summer. But I don't want it to be super crowded and don't mind a little further to find the best location. I'm looking for the best beach for kids to play, boogie board, etc, with short walk to beach. I'm also looking for a parking lot that has an attendant so we can leave the car and feel safe as well not get a ticket for letting the darned meter expire. Last but not least, I love the beach but hate to go home sandy and sticky. So, having a shower nearby would be great. A location with a heated shower would be so peachy but I realize I may be asking for too much. Please give me your opinion.

Thank you!

Ft Fisher (just beyond Kure Beach area) has a great public access with ramps right to the beach, restrooms and showers too. Its right next to the aquarium, theres even a snackstand although i'm not sure of hours.

Less crowded makes Kure good choice for what you want. The aquarium is convenient. Perhaps on your way out visit the batttleship attraction.

As far as Wrightsville Beach--clearer water and more little pools for younger kids to play in depending on the tide--if there is no parking in some of the larger parking areas with showers such as the "L" shaped parking lot on the north end nearer to Shell Island Resort then you can park on side of road and use a public access entrance. These are little paths that take you to the beach directly from street going in between homes. Those areas of the beach have far fewer visitors and you can park at #7 for example--you'll see signs on side of road--which is just 1/8 mile from the huge parking lot where there is a lifeguard tower with several showers. So the kids walk directly there for showering while dad gets the vehicle and meets them there in 15 minutes to pick up.

I find the Wrightsville Beach to have more boogie board friendly waves and currents.

Here's a link the spot I"m talking about marked up: https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid...10414,0.009216

one thing that is great about that parking area and perhaps the street parking is that you can refill your meter via phone by making call using the instructions on the meter. So you are the parking attendant.
