Cheap suggestions for a weekend trip (Wilmington, Atlantic Beach: rentals, house, live in)

I was thinking of taking a quick weekend trip, possibly to the Wilmington area. I've been to Atlantic Beach but no other NC coastal areas (I live in western NC). Any suggestions on places to go and stay would be appreciated. Just looking for a quick, cheap getaway for a mid-twenties couple.

Depends on what you are interested in doing. You can rent some homes on Topsail Island for three or four days at a reduced rate, cut expenses by having whatever meals you want to prepare yourself, and just hang out on the beach.

Yeah I'd looked at a couple rental sites but most are as you said require multiple day rentals or weekly. Unfortunately due to work I can only swing two nights, Fri-Sun. As for what we'd like to do, we're both outdoorsy so hanging at the beach and stuff like that would be perfectly fine and some sort of night life (bar hopping, etc.) would be great but really just looking for a quick getaway to relax.

You might check Topsail Island Vacation Rentals | Topsail Island Rentals| Topsail Island NC who manages our house. They offer rentals for as few as three days on short notice. You would have to call them. But you might find a house that hasn't been rented and get a decent deal. If you haven't been to Topsail Island it would be a different place and there are a few bars you can hit too.
