Do the various beaches in NC have different "personalities"??

Which would you pick for a quiet, relaxing location for adults? Our primary activities would be morning runs/walks, simple seafood restaurants, and less crowded?

It has been several years, but we did visit Wrightsville Beach. At the time smoking was allowed, and had more of a party atmosphere (adults, as well as college kids). We would like to get away from that to a more restful area.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, or please direct me to other threads that may answer my questions.

Thanks.

Atlantic beach to the north or long beach and others in that area to the south. Wrightsville sucks. The cops down there try to make major money from giving parking tickets . There arent enough places to park on many days. ps the fishing pier is under construction and it will be a long time before you can even pay to walk on it.

Default Vacation

I would recommend somewhere on Bogue Banks. Atlantic Beach, Pine Knoll Shores, Salter Path, Indian Beach or Emerald Isle. Pine Knoll Shores is quiet and beautiful. There are no high rises or tackiness. It is situated in a maritime forest. Great, locally owned restaurants on the island and a bunch more in nearby Morehead City. Beaufort is a charming, historic and very walkable town that is a bridge away from Morehead City. Lots to see and do there as well as on the MC waterfront.
There is a very nice aquarium in PKS and Fort Macon State Park at Atlantic Beach. There are great walking and running opportunities on the island.

Any of the beaches along Crystal Coast will be more quiet.

Above Writtesville which is mecca for people from Triangle calmer place north is Atlantic, Surf City, Top Sail, Emerald Isle.

Or on southern end. Oak Island, Holden, and Ocean Isle.

Don't overlook Sunset Beach, the southernmost beach in NC. No high rises just SFHs, some good seafood restaurants (Calabash NC). One of our favourites!

We are 10 minutes from Holden Beach. Very nice, family oriented beach. You can get to Shallotte in 15 minutes, Southport in 20 to 25. Several restaurants around, too.

We live/will live at Topsail Beach. Quiet, family oriented, no high rise hotels or condos. And enough great restaurants on Topsail Island to satisfy your palate. Wonderful book out called "Topsail Island: Mayberry by the Sea." Sort of captures it!

I like to call Wrightsville Beach...Wilmington Beach...it is essentially the main beach the entire city uses, which is why its so crowded. There is nothing wrong with it, its just a busy beach.

To be honest all the beaches get crowded on say July 4th...so its pick your poison. The problem is you want good restaurants in a not so crowded area. You are likely going to have to drive to get to good restaurants if you want a secluded beach. Maybe try Ocean Isle Beach, where you can get to N Myrtle or Southport in about 30-45 minutes or so. South end of Topsail Island or North Topsail Beach work...Salter Path is pretty good. Corrolla is tough to get to, but very nice....short drive to nice restaurants in Duck. Ocracoke has lots of local seafood...but the most calm place would be Bald Head Island, you have a couple of choices for restaurants.

To be honest, most beach towns in NC are different from others, there is even a big difference between Nags Head and Kitty Hawk if you really look.
