Can anyone here tell me a little or a lot about this retirements community? Any info or insights would be greatly appreciated. Hoping to gain insight about the community itself, lots of info about Southport to be had elsewhere. Thank you in advance, RK04

I found two communities with similar names: The Cottages (by Cardinal Builders) and The Cottages at Prices Creek. I'm not sure where they are or if they are related. At any rate, my comments apply to both.

The houses look cute, but you should not not assume it's being marketed as a retirement community. In fact many similar communities on the coast are being marketed to young families, or as a summer places for affluent folks. There is nothing in the building style that is especially designed for seniors.

If you were referring to the Cardinal Builders' homes, I have been in their Cottages at Holly Ridge. My reaction was that they were cheaply built and suitable only as a starter home or rental home.

Southport itself has a nice, old-fashioned town feel. There are several good restaurants. and I enjoyed the time I have spent there. If you like the town, I would look for something better.

Thank you. I assumed they were a retirement community as they were advertised in a magazine, Where To Retire. Appreciate the comment about the "quality" of the homes built, that is of course very important to us.

The location is good, and they are near the Southport Senior Center. You might make it work as a retirement home. However, your neighbors will probably include children.

I'll modify my comment about quality a bit. I see on Realtor.com, that there are two models listed now on Cades Trail, selling in the $360K range. These appear to be a different builder and/or much better materials. They are mostly marketed as second homes.

The Cardinal Homes I saw in Holly Ridge were under $200K, and at about $100/SF, the quality was minimal.

I did a double check, and they are built by Cardinal Builders/Homes. Appreciate your 2nd post as well. Thanks, RK04
