The fellow (Fred) who coordinated the kayakers from St James has a wonderful website.

Go to Ft. Fisher, keep driving all the way to the end. Don't turn into the Ferry port. At the very end of the road is a parking lot with a small boat ramp. I frequently see kayakers launching from there when I'm biking that way.

This is a blog:

Thanks, Fancy and h2! We ended up launching at a park, Dutchman's Creek. It was nice, but rainy, so we didn't get enough of a paddle in to really be able to judge the scene. And the "watch for alligators" sign was a little freaky.

We'll definitely check out Zeke's Island. Someone IN Southport also recommended it.

You guys are awesome. Thanks!
