Wondering what the average utility bills are in the Wilmington and surrounding areas? We do not have to pay for water in MA but have been told to expect to pay water in NC. There will be 3 of us living in the home. How about electric? Cable? Trash pick up?

Duke Progress controls power in Wilmington...CFPUA controls everything else (water/sewer/trash/stormwater). Trash includes recycling (separate cart).

Electric is not that bad because of the climate (warmer in the winter, cooler in the summer) over many other spots in NC...obviously it differs house to house based on size, insulation, etc..

My CFPUA bill runs about 220 every two months...so about 110 a month, about half of which is trash. Trash pickup also includes yard waste weekly and special items if you call ahead. For what they pickup, I don't think its a bad deal.

Our water/sewer is about $140 every OTHER month. Electric is $150-200/month. Cable with DVR and wireless internet is almost $150/month. We do not pay for trash. This is for a 3bd/2ba house.

I think this poster is giving an average estimate. At our place the electric heat can be $200 in winter and A/C in summer is about $220/month. It's about $40-50 in spring and fall. We have a large 4-br house.

Keep in mind that most folks cool and HEAT with electric now...there aren't too many heating with natural gas, propane gas or oil...so a $150 a month (like I noted which depends on your sq ft, insulation, age of house, etc..) on average is probably not bad.

I should add that I misstated the garbage rate in my earlier post...its $49 every two months (out of that $220 bill) so not half of the bill, more like a quarter. I have three bathrooms so water/sewer is reflective of that.

Our trash is $12.50 a month, electric is usually between $40 and $85-$95 on our worst month, we just have cable and internet, no DVR, that being said its all together $106 a month for two rooms having cable, water is base water because husbands military and we also live a mile from base, so that is $5 to $12 at our absolute worst. This is a 3 bedroom, 2 bath manufactured home.

We live in the Hampstead area and our electric runs between $80 and $200 depending upon the season. We do not pay for trash and have our own well/septic.

As you can see, "your mileage may vary".

My water, trash, and sewer in the city of Wilmington is never more than the base rate, so about $40 a month.

I have no cable, but I have high(er) speed internet, that costs me $80-ish a month.

My house is all electric. My highest electric bills are in the summer, when I get a month or two of $200 - $250 electric bills. The rest of the year, it's stays right around the $100 mark.

My landline phone is Ooma, so I don't pay anything for that.

My cellphone is Republic Wireless, I pay about $20 a month for that.

We live in 1265 sq ft all electric townhouse 2 adults.

TWC cable runs $111.00 includes med speed internet,1 DVR, and 70 channels on 3 HDTVs. I Purchased my own modem & router.

Water/Sewer bill is around $50 a month (2 adults) it is billed every other month. Trash is included in rent. My highest electric so far has been $74. My husband & I were sick for 2 weeks during Christmas so we ran the heat a lot.

Our car insurance is $35 a month cheaper than in PA.

There is a 2% tax on food and 7% tax on all other items.

Living here in Monkey Junction (Myrtle Grove) for the money it can't be beat.
