Home schooling the kids gives you a bunch of options.

I'd suggest if you are going to rent (and are willing to pay up to $1800), you look in the South Oleander area...its a great neighborhood and right next to the hospital, but it may be hard to find a rental. If you want to be closer to the water, you may be able to find something in the Bradley Creek or Masonboro Sound areas...I know a family that rents a 4BR house on Shandy Lane, which is a great area. I also know another that rents a 3BR in Pine Valley. Both have been temporarily relocated for job reasons.

Check some of the rental websites...although the best houses are getting rented out as we come closer to school starting.

Thank you -- this is really helpful.

For everyone still reading. . . (and thank you). . . I hope I didn't sound silly asking if $95,000 would allow for a certain quality of life. I've just come off of a few months of considering Hawaii and San Diego. Believe me, $95,000 would get you a shack -- and you couldn't even afford a Diary Queen cone at the end of it.

So that's what's behind a "silly" question.

Welcome, don't feel silly!
you should be able to make a very good life here for that amount of money,
we do it on less and have a fab life style here.

look in Forest Hills, Autumn Hall , there are many nice neighborhoods
that would be convenient to the hospital.
get out that map and hopefully you have a good realtor
helping you find a place.

You'll do fine in Wilmington on an income of $8,000 a month. You'll have a nice house, drive new cars, send the kids to private schools, have gym memberships, belong to a country club etc...

Well. . . when the government is said and done, it comes out to about $5,000 a month.

He's in a specialized IT niche.

Thanks for the help. And I do apologize for sounding ridiculous. Really, look into Hawaii or San Diego and you'll see why my thinking was so off base.

Thanks again,

Alley

Perhaps if that was based on take home pay. Private school tuition can easily exceed $15k/year.
