Vacationing in Kitty Hawk all this coming week. Leaving from Greenville in a few hours, and will be staying in Kitty Hawk, just south of where Hwy 158 meets Hwy 12. Would it be easier to go to Elizabeth City and get on 158, or should I just use Hwy 64 and head up 12 through Nags Head. I don't think there's any real time difference. I've never come in on 158, and I know how many traffic signals there from Nags Head northward. So how's the traffic situation on 158 from Elizabeth City to Kitty Hawk? Is it worth going around that way to avoid the multitude of lights, or is it a wash either way? Thanks!

In my one experience, the drive on Highway 64 was much easier than the drive from Elizabeth City. But that may vary with what day it is.

Yeah, it looks like I'd be trading a few dozen lights in exchange for two lane traffic on 158. Might not be a good idea on a Saturday. Maybe I'll try it on the way home. Thanks.

I cannot imagine that 64 is not the best way. I am sure on Checkout day it will be wild. Just be glad you are going to the beach. Have Fun!

There is construction right now in E-City and Camden that is adding about 15 minutes to that trip...64 is the best way as long as there is no construction...neither way has that much traffic until you get near the Outer Banks.
