I'm thinking of locating to the New Hanover area of North Carolina, and I was wondering if some of you could give me a bit of input.

I enjoy the idea of being minutes from city and the sea, I was wondering what the quality of life is like in the area, are there areas to stay away from, where it's not safe? Does it have an area Center or Main Town?
What's the shopping like, and the night life? What about hospitals and medical? Is it pretty, is it just a rural area of homes all spread out?

thanks

The major component of New Hanover County is the City of Wilmington. Smaller componenets are Wrightsville Beach and Carolina Beach. You will find most of your answers if you research Wilmington on City-data. A short answer is that it is a city of 105,000 with a downtown historic district. The downtown has many good restaurants and entertainment centers, and it also has a rim of sketchy neighborhoods. Otherwise, Wilmington is like a large suburb with nice amenities, a couple of hospitals and good medical center. The shopping is decent but not as good as larger cities like Raleigh.
