My husband and I are new to the Wilmington area (actually we live in Surf City...) and now that the house is semi unpacked, I am ready to explore! I desperately miss our normal weekend activities from when we lived in the west-- coffee shops with character, live music, museums, lectures, shopping at locally owned boutiques, etc any and all recommendations for anything that isn't a Port City Java or a Gap is much appreciated!

And what would be the best resource for finding concerts/plays/etc in the area? I want to make sure I am not missing anything.

Thank you so much! -- Annie

Buy a copy of the Wilmington Star-news on Sunday. There is a cultural events section for the upcoming week.

a few of our favorites ,

Satelite bar and lounge, Calico room, Cameron art museum for both music, food and art classes,
live music at Greenfield Lake Amphie theatre [ concerts during spring, summer , fall] the list goes on. As you spend more time exploring Wilmington you will slowly learn about these local places.
Not sure the reason why you live in Surf City but you are in for some serious driving to get that city
feeling.
Blue Moon gift shops, Cool Sweats , great little coffee house on Castle street but the name escapes me ,

Don't forget Thalian Hall.

I consider the Battleship, Fort Fisher, the Historic District, Poplar Grove, and Orton Plantation all to be cultural in nature because of their historic value. And Airlie Gardens is beautiful at Christmas time. They have concerts in the park. Lots of festivals in Wilmington.
