My family and I have recently move from Salisbury, N.C. to Duplin County, Teachey, N.C.. What is it with the employment here? I have sent out resumes and applications at numerous places and haven't had any responces. I am a very hard working man and do take my work very serious. I also have experiance in a veriaty of skills. Construction (residential), warehouse, production. Can anyone please point me in the correct direction, please. I do have a family and doen't like charity.

Since you asked for help, I will attempt to give some.
If I had received your application and/or resume I would have thrown it away shortly after beginning reading it. IF your grammar, spelling and punctuation were as poor on your submitted forms as they are here in your post I would think that the applicant was undereducated. I would not want someone in my employ that could not speak or write properly. As my employee you are representing ME. If the job(s) that you have applied for involved any writing skills I would be at a loss to find it within me to hire you for that position as I would want to be able to read and understand that which you have submitted to me. I also would have reservations about allowing you to write anything that a client or customer would need to read. Again, you are representing ME and MY business.
PLEASE look at the quote above and find a dictionary and/or a good English handbook so that you will better represent yourself to your next possible employer.
If, perchance, I am wrong and your posts just have alot of typos please forgive me. My intent is not to insult or criticize but to give you the help that you sought.

Hi rafterrat,
I know how stressfull it can be when you have a family, but no income. While waiting to find employment, have you considered seing self-employed?Just a thought, but here in eastern North Carolina we've found it very difficult to find independant contractors to help us with improvements to our home and buildings. There are contractors but they all seem to be TOO busy.
You say you have some construction skills, perhaps you could offer your "handyman" services. There is an influx of seniors and retirees moving to the state and many would prefer to hire someone to do minor repairs or improvements.
Best of luck to you. Keep a positive attitude and all will be well.

Not to sound hateful or anything but, Just because a person can't spell properly DOES NOT mean he is stupid. I have always had problems with spelling and always will. I believe I am very smart and so do alot of other people. You would have to knoe me personaly. But thank you for the feed back.

Thank you for the thought. I plan on starting my Handyman Service back up again once I have my truck repaired. When I do my work I do it differently than others do. I only charge for the labor and have the home owner pay for the materials. That way I don't charge them to much for the job.

There was really no reason for that person to speak to you in that manner. I don't care if you couldn't spell your own name correctly, no one should be speaking to anyone that way.

rafterrat, I never used the word stupid nor did I imply that. You are right, a person would have to know you personally. I believe that I used the word undereducated. There is a big difference. As an employer I gave you an answer based on the limited information that I had about you and that was your post. I also said that I did not intend to insult.
Sorry for any misunderstanding, but, I stand by what I said. It was meant as constructive criticism, nothing more.
You say you have experience and are a hard worker. I thought maybe there was another reason that you are not getting hired. All I could come up with was what was presented, your post.
I wish you well.
Ginnie

Would it be possible to send you a resume and tell me what I have done wrong?

Consider it akin to a cover letter. Ginnie critiqued your abilities based upon your posting to the board. In cover letters and resumes, a typo is a complete kiss of death.
If you're really looking for work, you MUST be on top of your game. That includes any written communications...
