I live about 1 1/2 hrs from the beaches. We are looking to rent a second place at the beach. Just a weekend getaway, or when we can kind of thing.
Like all places I am sure there are good parts and not so good parts to live.
I guess what i'm looking for is "here is good community" or "stay away from these areas"
Life is interesting.... I have a 2 yr old (which will almost always be where I am) and I also have a 16 and 19 yr old that will "occasionally" be there. We would like to find an area that has something for everyone to enjoy.
I can tell you that there are no "stay away from these areas" type spots anywhere on Topsail Island (Topsail Beach, Surf City, N. Topsail Beach), as far as I know. They are peaceful, family-oriented beach towns.
I like to hear that!
I have not run into any problem in any of these places. Although While having breakfast at Carolina beach last year, I over heard a (partial) conversation about someone's "bad luck" with someone else replying about them "hanging down by crack alley" curious to where that might be. And another time we stayed the hotel owner's teenage son was robbed a few blocks down (a convenient store near boardwalk), in broad daylight. So .... I tend to wonder. I haven't stayed in Topsail or surf city as much but find myself going more often.
Just recently we were in C. B. and there was a lot of new stuff going on.
I'd like to know if there are places in both Topsail and Carolina Beach
1) that have say.... Mommy & me activities for toddlers. Family friendly parks where I can feel comfortable (safe) being that most of the time it will be just me and the baby.
2) activities/places that are attractive to teenage boys....skate parks, ball games, etc
There are a couple of small parks in the Surf City area; but it's mostly just the beach. There is a little family park on Rt. 50 south of town with swings, and one by the swing bridge with a boat ramp...maybe boys could take up surfing.
I personally love Topsail/Surf City but I think there may be more to do at Carolina Beach for your older sons. Have you thought about Emerald Isle/Atlantic Beach?
I have never been out to emerald isle, DH said I would also like Outer banks (is that the same or near emerald isle) but too far to live right now.
My DH wants to stay within 2 hrs of family. But hopefully I'll get to visit soon anyways.
thats what I like about living here... any beach is either a day trip or weekend trip. As much as I love the mountains (lived in mnts 28yrs) I sure do love the beach just as much!
Hi my husband and I are looking to relocate to a quiet nice coastal town in nc, we are from murphy NC, my husband is sick and we are just looking for a small hometown kind of beach town, but also possibly close (within 30 min to 1 hr to a larger hospital, good doctors etc. I am also a nurse and will be looking for employment, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. You can also email me at ehembreern@gmail.com. Thanks guys PS looking for a good place that is reasonable (rent etc) as well as pleasant to live.
My husband and I love to go to North Topsail beach. It's mostly private, clean beaches, clean housing (and in some cases expensive). Surf City is about 8 -9 miles south to drive for eating, pier fishing, and some local shops. There are several popular retaurants around live the Riverview that has fabulous seafood (fresh catch). It deserves a look!
