Help...We are a family of 5 currently living in a seaside community about 20 miles north of Boston, MA. We have lived here for 9 years and have family and friends. However...we are tired of the cold winters and elitist people here in the northeast (not all obviously)We absolutely love the Carolinas and have vacationed in Hilton Head Island,SC for over 10 years. We are so frustrated with the rising home prices and the fact that $1,000,000 barely gets you 4 bedrooms and a new kitchen. We have been considering a move south for a few years now and trying to find the right place for us. We would like to find an upscale town, ideally near the water, we have 2 school age children and a toddler and would prefer private/parochial but would like a strong public school should we choose that route. We don't want a house that looks exactly like the neighbors house, but we would like new construction or an older home that has been renovated. We would like a neighborhood where the kids play outside with the neighborhood kids and your neighbors actually say "hi" to you. We would like a place with plenty of shopping, coffee shops parks and playgrounds, and a real strong sense of community! Low crime and fairly close to a major metropolian area. Our price range would be anywhere from $500,000-$800,000.Does this place exist or just in our imagination.

What you are looking for does exist here in NC. We moved here over 10 years ago from south of Boston and haven't once regretted it.

May I suggest you post your queries in the Raleigh sub forum if you want the small metro type living or down in the Coastal sub forum if you need to be near the ocean. You can live a few miles outside of the City of Raleigh itself and be in a good suburban neighborhood. On the coast there are several sites like Wilmimngton, Jacksonville and New Bern that offer some semblance of city living but more like living on Cape Cod. Once you post in those areas and break down all the parameters there are a number of folks who are ready and willing to assist. There are also Realtors listed in here.

Hope this helped somewhat.

It sounds like you would like the Topsail Island area (a little north of Wilmington).
