"Sounds like you had some low-quality advice."
I built a custom home on a golf course in St. James with no mortgage. I think that speaks to the quality of advice I get.

I could see how St. James, despite its local stigma, would be a tremendous improvement over New Jersey.

You clearly know nothing about New Jersey, but this thread is about Coastal NC, try sticking to the subject.

I wasn't aware St. James had a stigma. I know it is very large and in fact its own town, but I'd like to hear more on what people think of St. James.

I apologize, I shouldn't be so mean. I'm sure St. James is a fine place. I've never been there. I must stick to my guns regarding New Jersey though.
Coastal Breeze, fair or not, I don't know, the place gets a lot of negative media attention. There was an article and an editorial in the Star News today about the St. James annexation, and something about the hypothetical use of a restaurant. I don't follow the details, but I see articles regularly. They attract attention among various business, political, news organizations. This sort of attention tends to happen when you create a governmental body. So since I'm sure you're a good real estate agent, I assume you are not serious when you say you weren't aware of a stigma. But I'm getting off topic, here.

St. James gets more positive media attention than negative, if you pay attention. My take is that all the locals I deal with value their connections to St. James. Our community contributes a huge amount to the local economy. Our service club has contributed millions to the Brunswick communities. Our annual Flea Market brought in more than $50,000 in the last two years to BCC for scholarships. We continue to lead in voluntarism at Kiwanis, CIS, and Computers for Kids (which provides free home computers for families that could not otherwise afford home computers). This does not include the St James PRIDE organization or our recycling campaign or our oyster shell recycling program.

Based on what???
We lived in Hunterdon County which is the national capitol of hot-air ballooning, it is also one of the best bicycling areas in the nation. People leave NJ because of the property tax system and the weather. What we give up is great Italian food, Great Chinese food, access to NYC, etc
What we gain is hard to describe, but it has caused us to move here in droves. If Rubber_Factory wants to find out what we find so compelling about the area (in general) and St. James in particular, he could e-mail me and get a tour or flag me down. My NC state tag is "ST JAMES" on my 1997 Chrysler Pacifica.
