Moving from Brooklyn to southport due to the high cost of living. We know it's slow and small but the wife grew up there and the family has a 3 bedroom house sitting empty. This is a chance for us to lick the wounds and save money? Any leads on graphic design jobs or dance professor positions ate greatly appreciated
As for your job-hunting, they do have a newspaper, could be they'll need a graphic artist. And as the above poster said, Wilmington has everything, it's just 20 minutes north of Southport, an easy drive, they have a university and film studios and of course a vibrant art scene. I imagine both towns will have dance studios, altho I did not do a search for that.
Southport, oh you all are fortunate indeed. The centuries-old live oak trees, the marina with yachts and pier, parks and outdoor cafes, historic district, pretty place, close to the ocean of course. Plus you don't have to deal with all the traffic of a big city, and yet still be close to Wilmington, which there is no comparison of traffic in W to NY! Surely you have visited there... the weather is awesome.
Thanks for the info. I didn't think about Myrtle beach as an option for employment opportunities. Also wasn't aware Wilmington had film studios.
We definitely are fortunate to live in Southport, we visit a few times during the year and I always thought we would retire there. The last trip in august we started thinking if we wanted to start a family... maybe we could do it there. Brooklyn is a little too hectic.
Southport is a nice place, but I'd be shocked if you could find a graphic design job in Myrtle Beach or Wilmington, much less Brunswick County.
Found a few job postings but it has been slim pickings thus far online. I know it will be a tough and we are willing to work jobs that aren't in our field. Once we get settled in we will look for work in the triangle but until the climate gets better we will have to make it in the Wilmington area.
