As recent property owners we were searching the St. James POA website looking for activities and clubs.
We were told that the choices were numerous but cannot find much on the site. We were also looking for a schedule of exercise classes at the multiple facilities on site but also cannot find them. Can someone direct us please to the right page.
Thank you.

There is so much going on in and around SJP it can be confusing at first.

There is The Clubs. This is the Social/Tennis/Golf clubs at SJP that you have to join independently as a property owner in SJP. The Clubs events revolve mostly around golf as you might imagine. There are regularly scheduled events such as quarterly member mixers, holiday dances and dinners, prime rib nights, karaoke nights, a wine club, a craft beer club and so on. The The Clubs at St. James Plantation - The Lifestyle web site has calendars and reservation policies for these events. Each club, Founders, Members etc. may have one or two special events each month in addition to the normal hours for restaurants that is not golf or tennis related.

Most every neighborhood in SJP will get together a few times a year at picnics, dinner at the clubs and so on where you can meet your neighbors. Talk to your neighbors, they can fill you in.

The POA website at https://stjamespoa.site-ym.com/ lists most of the various clubs. There are sports clubs for tennis, fishing, bicycling, kayaking, and shooting. There are art/craft clubs for photography, quilting and scrap booking. There are card game clubs for poker and bridge and other card games. There is a garden club and one of the biggest and most active clubs is the Service Club. The Service Club is primarily involved in fund raising via many types of events for the befit of charitable organizations in Brunswick County. All of these clubs and more can be accessed through the POA website. Each club operates a bit differently. Some you can join an e-mail update on activities directly via the website. Others have contact information to call. Some clubs, such as kayaking and bicycling are a bit dormant in the winter and may not have a lot going on right now. If there is a club or organization you don’t see, maybe you want to start one yourself.

The Town of St James has a community center next to the sales office just outside the main gate. For a nominal fee there are many activities that happen there such as line dance, Zumba, Pilates, and Yoga classes. The Community Center is at Community Center - St. James, NC*

Brunswick County has a number of Senor Centers including one in Southport where activities are generally free to those over 60. Activities include watercolor and oil painting, exercise classes, games, square dancing, crafts and Bible study. It can be found at BSRI | Southport Senior Center

The Brunswick County Chamber of Commerce has a calendar page at Events Calendar - Brunswick County Chamber of Commerce . Big things in the area include the NC Oyster Festival, 4th of July where 40,000 plus visit Southport Southport NC-Home of the North Carolina 4th of July Festival . There are walking tours, Christmas tours, boat parades, and more.

It is not hard to get involved in SJP or in the community in general. It just takes a bit of time to talk to people. I have found most everyone St James to be friendly and informative. Pretty soon your calendar will start filling up and it will be hard to decide just what to do.

The Brunswick Newcomers Club is a great way to meet people and have fun as well. There are many groups, travel opportunities and lots of SJP residents are members. You can look at the website brunswicknewcomers.com to find out about the next meeting, Wednesday, October 21. Hope to see you there!

Not to mention you can or will get:

E-mail blasts from the town of St James
E-mail SJP News
E-mail St James POA
E-mail The Clubs at St James

If that is not enough, for a nominal fee you can get a daily update from "Just Judy" and other other independent resources.

The St James Community Center also hosts hosts several fitness classes like Yoga and Zumba that you can attend on a pay per class basis.

The Southport Senior Center offers many activities and trips.

Not only in SJP but in the area there are clubs and activities for almost anything you can imagine from Shag dancing to kayaking to shooting.

Retirement can be so busy I sometimes think I should go back to work to get some rest.

The maximum number of people in the class .... occasionally they may allow one or two more but it is primarily defined by the type of class and room size.

Any Mahjong women groups.
My wife has a regular game at home and would be eager to learn of others in Brunswick or St James ( assuming we decide to retire in the area)
