A mudpuppy specific to the Neuse River, living right there in Kinston.
Kinston Waterdogs....sounds like a perfect minor league name to me.

Quirky sells well in the minor leagues...I like Waterdogs for the new team name.

The Rangers have entered a business arrangement with the city of Kinston. They should want to boost the city's image. Since they own the franchise they should also make merchandise appealing on a broad basis. I'm not sure Down East hats and shirts will be an easy sell. They could have used Coastal Carolina or Neuse River instead of Down East. It's gonna look strange on merchandise.

I guess the Ranger's don't want anything with Kinston on it.
Hamhawk is terrible. It's a blah piece of meat at that.
Hogzillas is suppper redneck. I guess that attracts some people
Shaggers.....The same people that would buy that hat, used to buy to USC ***** hats.
Wood Ducks, that's about as intimidating as the Pelicans.
Eagles seems like a copout, but at least it has history.....I guess.

They should have stipulated the name Kinston be in the name.
Reminds me of The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

It's minor league baseball, the crazier, outrageous sounding name, is more of the norm now. It's all about the logo and getting kids to go crazy over it, and with the finalist names, I am not surprised at all with any of them, the logo possibilities are endless.
Just look at some of the team names in minor league baseball:
Akron RubberDucks
Albuquerque Isotopes
Batavia Muckdogs
El Paso Chihuahuas
Everett AquaSox
Fort Wayne TinCaps
Hartford Yard Goats
Lansing Lugnuts
Lehigh Valley IronPigs
Montgomery Biscuits
Portland Sea Dogs
Richmond Flying Squirrels
