I'll be staying in the Nags Head area for 7 days beginning Saturday and would like to know what's your favorite spot (one best) to take a non-people photograph (buildings, scenic, farms, boats, wildlife, flowers, wrecks all okay) and what time of day is best. Primary reason for visiting is 4 wildlife refuges (I do this in other states) but I'm game for any other good outdoor shots within an hours drive. I wouldn't ask but since it's my first time in eastern NC, I only know of touristy spots I've read about and I'm hoping for something different. I'm traveling by myself so not worried about entertaining anyone. Thanks.

Drive up north to the Corolla area and try to photograph the wild horses that live there.

There are so many photo ops in the area:

The Corolla Light
The dunes at Kitty Hawk
Fishing boats at Wanchese
The Hatteras Light
The Bodie Island Light
The fishing center/fleet at Oregon Inlet especially when the boats come in with the days catch
And about a bizzilon views of the ocean with dunes, sea oats, driftwood, sea shells etc.
Oh, and don't forget sunrises and sun sets from some locations

Thanks you guys. I am definitely going to head to the Oregon Inlet fishing center for when the boats come in because I can do other things earlier in the day and because I have mobility issues and I can park right there. I will probably also head to Corolla but skip the horses. I've been to Assateague several times so this would not be a new experience (wild horses). Promise to post some photos when I get back.

If you're interested in wildlife, there are lots of bears at Alligator River National Refuge. About the Complex - Alligator River - U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service

The Elizabethan Gardens and the Roanoke Island Festival Park provide some good photo ops, too.

I'm always a sucker for lighthouses and piers, too.
