I'm thinking of relocating to Wilmington and I'm surprised that there isn't an active board/thread - do not many in the area post? I really am looking for insight into people in the area, things to do, what's happening, etc.

I live in Wilmington --
If you search there are a lot of existing posts, as carolinadawg points out. If you have specific questions, I am sure you will get answers. Keep in mind that the people who post on these forums do not necessarily have information specific to your interests, but it you ask questions you will get answers. If you google What's on Wilmington, Or Wilmington NC events, you should get information on what is happening. The more information you give about your interests and your demographic I think the more helpful information you can get.

Many of the posters in the Coastal NC forum are looking for information on places to retire. Many of us who post regularly are retired.

However, Wilmington does have a younger demographic. If you were asking specifically about nightclubs or concerts, then make your specific request.

Thanks everyone - I mostly just wanted to read general conversations about "things" - traffic, shopping, crime, parks, whatever to get a feel for the people and the area.

I really think Wilmington deserves it's own subsection, there are many threads on the area and many looking for the info can't sift it out of the remainder of the coastal section.

Totally agree with this.

Wilmington is a thriving and dynamic area, for a lot of demographics.
Students, professionals with a thoughtful business vision, and retirees seem to like it too.

I honestly think this area is underrated.
Downtown Wilmington is a ton of fun. (WAY more lively and more boho than Raleigh)
It's more free-spirited.

The fact that the heart of the city is on the river + the beach is nearby... makes for a far cooler place than the vast suburban expanses of the triangle.

Lots of people seeking answers regarding the NC Coast - and it's the most populated NC coastal area.

I vote for this. The NC coastal area is huge.
