More and more information is coming out about these big projects near the 17th and Independence Blvd intersection...

The Forks at Barclay housing development near the Cameron Art Museum is under construction with a few units already completed...

As well, it was just announced that a 14 screen movie theater will be coming to Barclay Festival across 17th St....

New movie theater announced for midtown Wilmington | Port City Daily

Note this line in the article...

"Barclay Festival will also feature a grocery store, numerous restaurants and shopping, all within a walkable master planned community."

Since there are numerous Food Lion's nearby, you can assume this will be either a Harris Teeter or Publix. It should be noted from the first link that this will all be tied to the Cross City Trail, which the last section is being completed this month across College Rd at 17th.

The "Gallery Park Apartments" are already approved by the City and infrastructure is underway off George Anderson Dr.

Finally, it should also be noted that this increases the retail/entertainment/restaurant options for the River Lights project, which is essentially at the end of Independence Blvd along the river. As I have noted on here before River Lights is to have a ground breaking this summer on some amenities and their over 55 neighborhood (one of like 6 neighborhoods within RL) is to start construction next summer.

Really positive development that will transform this area just south of the Hospital and Mall.
