This gets alot of publicity, but like football, they gain alot of yards (newspaper articles and self-promotion) but no Touchdowns! (Completed projects)

Anyone know more about:
  1. The riverfront walkway. What's the completion date? I ask the city and they said end of March (2 months ago)
  2. The Port City Marina - their website says end of June - I am holding my breath but not really.
  3. What will be at the marina? I see dirt people.
  4. A gazillion reports about new hotels - Indigo and Embassy Suites - connected to the convention center. I've yet to see backhoe number-one.
  5. Some condo development in front of the marina, Pier-33. Who knows when?
  6. Some other condos in front of the occupied marina farther North by some Cary company. Nada.
In the year 2030, this will be a hopping place, but sure seems like the town and various developers are flinging more BS than dirt from their backhoes.

I know, worlds biggest skeptic - but wouldn't mind seeing the (real) progress that's being ballyhooed.

Not too much more that I can really say other than these things take time. Unless you have a few hundred million dollars to give to these construction companies (or lawyers or judges) to get the work done faster, it will happen when it happens. There's all sorts of red tape and legal stuff to go through before construction can even begin.

One word...."Financing".

These are speculative projects. Its not like building a Wal-Mart which you know people will come to (and BTW, how long have they been talking about building a Wal Mart in the Ogden/Porters Neck area...about 8 years or so?).

Building a hotel on the waterfront takes 5 years to develop for various reasons...building a Trader Joe's takes 18 months. Heck even construction for Cape Fear Community College was 5-10 in the making...believe it was a 2008 Bond...and its all still not spent.

I, for one, believe the time is a good thing...it means when the project is built it was built for a purpose and will survive.

Lots of construction last I saw downtown...new office building across from the Courthouse, new City Block Apartments off 3rd St, new Performing Arts center on 3rd St, Riverwalk extension took a few extra months to complete....and lots of projects on the drawing board.
