My husband and I are interested in relocating to New Bern. Does anyone know the area well enough to shed some light on the historic district? We're looking at National Avenue across the RR tracks from George St. How is the neighborhood? Also, does anyone know if Maola Dairy has future expansion/closure plans?

Maola announced it was closing the processing plant at New Bern plant recently: Maola to close New Bern processing plant, move operations - Local - Sun Journal

But note that there will still be delivery trucks originating there.

I visit New Bern frequently, but not that neighborhood. The streetview shows some nice, well-kept homes and some that need work. If you are aware that it is an urban neighborhood, you could enjoy living there. Some realtors refer to the "hip neighborhood of Riverside".

However, I know there are other sites that will report New Bern gets a D for crime statistics. In addition, please read the discussions of the electric rates in New Bern. The rates are currently very high, but they may go down in the future.

The rates will go down but that percentage is unknown currently. As for crime I have been in the downtown area numerous times recently and never feel unsafe.I moved to the area March 1st and did extensive research before purchasing.I avoided New Bern utilities but still have a New Bern zip code and not their utilities.
