I was wondering if anyone can tell me what the job situation is like in Elizabeth City (specifically computer network jobs). Also, where is the closest airport? Is the area predominately conservative, liberal or somewhere in between?? Info on the public schools would be helpful too.
We are currently waiting to see if a job opportunity opens up in Greenville SC, but I am not too hopeful, so we are looking at other areas in the Carolinas.
Thanks for the help!

Elizabeth City is a very beautiful area, but as with nearly all small towns outside of a metro area, the economy is very limited. For a Computer Networking job, it'd be a good idea to look in the Charlotte or Raleigh areas. Their economies are two of the strongest in the nation, and you'll have a lot more success in those areas. Good luck in your search!!!

Elizabeth City may be a good choice because the university there called Elizabeth City State University may need more people in the computer field, and the college is expanding and getting some type of aviation program, and other programs too, that will more than likely need someone in the computer field. The city also is growing in population, and more businesses are coming to Elizabeth City too.

Hi Adrienne1,

Along with ECSU (Elizabeth City State University) as NC Star pointed out, there is also COA (College of the Albemarle) and Roanoke Bible College.

My wife is in the computer industry also (specifically web development work), but she's transitioning into the educational industry because of the amount of work within the local schools-- university/college and high/middle/elementary school levels.

With technology job salaries not as high as salaries such as states in the North (like Maine, Maryland, etc.), home affordability takes on the same effect. Regarding info on schools in Elizabeth City, they have a unique school campus comprised of high, middle, and elementary on the Elizabeth City outskirts, not too far from Chesapeake, Virginia.

If employment doesn't work out for you in Greenville, South Carolina, the Elizabeth City, NC outskirts are situated nicely where you could commute to stronger economic opportunities in Virginia (Chesapeake, Suffolk, Virginia Beach).
So hope this helps you some.
Sincere Regards, Soon2BNEC
