Hi--My family and I lived in NC (Chapel Hill area) a few years back and really loved it. We made the mistake of moving to California for a job change and now would like to return to NC to stay. We're interested in the coastal areas, but don't know a whole lot about the job market there. My husband's trained as an electrical engineer and would like to continue in that field. Is it possible to live near the coast and have a short commute (30 minutes or less) to work? If so, what areas would you recommend? We've heard good things about the Outer Banks and the Crystal Coast, but would be open to any coastal area (an affordable cost of living would be a big plus). Thanks so much for any information you can give! Kristin

I moved from the Silicon Valley, CA to Ocean Isle Beach NC, and there are no jobs here, and if any they are less than 1/2 the salaries. Wilmington is a bio-tech mecca, Myrtle Beach in NC is the next largest city South.

Do your homework on the areas before you move, this is the price you pay moving to the coast. But there is growth here in the constuction marked due to retires from other areas moving in. Just have your husband check out the work sitution first.

Finding a good deal right now couldn't be any better, try Short Sales.
