I was very surprised to read that the Belmont Lake Preserve in Rocky Mount was named as one of the 50 Best Master Planned Communities in the US by "Where to Retire" magazine. I had not heard of it before.

But, I did a little digging and found that it used to be called Ford's Colony at Rocky Mount. The original developer struggled, and sold the assets to the Halle Companies. They renamed it, completed a new community clubhouse with an indoor swimming pool, fitness facilites and meeting rooms. The Halle Companies also purchased the golf course. They are also responsible for the Villages of Apex.

There are only 140 homes built now, but it looks very promising. It is an all-ages community now, but they are planning a 55+ section. Hopefully, they can overcome the negative reputation of Rocky Mount.

Does anyone have any more details?
