Possible job relocation to Wilmington - I have looked at the Mayfaire area at rental properties.

How is this area? I realize the campus is nearby and I'm not interested in living near student housing. I understand crime is everywhere too.

Mayfaire is a very affluent "neo-urban" development. I doubt that students can afford to live there.

Gotcha. There seem to be many newer apartment developments in that general area. Does anyone have any experience with any of these: cypress ponde at porter neck, Hawthorne at the station, reserve at mayfaire, headwaters at autumn hall.

It is a very nice area, with a lot of good apartments. Go for it, if you can afford it. I would not expect to encounter students there. You will be close to all shopping, close to the beach, and a close drive to town.

You can get whatever you want in Wilmington for sure. Mayfaire is safe, I work in the area, but it's really busy and can be too much during summer months with tourist taking over. Get a bike - bike to Wrightsville easily and don't let people freak you out about hurricanes. Really all very very exaggerated. Been here a long time and lived in beach community through 5 or 6 really good storms since 94' without more than a few days off work following the 2 worst. Never ever think this is a "small" town though...it is not Mayberry no matter how many times you hear Andy Griffith had a house here. It's interesting. Good luck.
