New2ECU,

My husband and I recently moved from Raleigh and we have a 17-month-old. We are in the same boat. We have tried to reach out to couples in our neighborhood, but it's been hard. I also work at ECU. We are not church people, and I have noticed that most people here are. We frequent the park on Fire Tower Rd. on weekends, sad to say, looking for a cool couple!

Default Looking as well

I know it has been months since you posted this, but I was wondering if you found any answers to your query. I am also new to the area. My husband and I have a 9 month old and are looking for play groups and other opportunities to interact with the community.

Greenville Park and Rec is very good and when your kids are older, there will be a ton of things for them to do. I coach youth soccer and we have 7-800 kids out every season. Also, get involved at the ECU Rec Center...they have summer programs for kids as well. Also, I suggest joining a gym...I belong to the rec center and Golds and I have met a great number of people at both. Also, consider going to the town library. It is quite large for a city like this and who knows you might meet some good folks there. Good luck.

Welcome to the area everyone! I also wanted to suggest GreenvilleMommies.com--Pitt County's Mom-to-Mom Connection. A few other suggestions are to take a Kindermusic class. Danusia Patton is an awesome teacher and you will have a lot of fun with her. There are about 10 mom/dad and child combinations in every class so small enough to get to know people. Elm Street has a new park that a lot of parents with young children hang out at. It's just too hot right now. Football games in the fall, tons of locals go to the games and it's a good place to meet people. There are new Baby Signs classes being taught at the community college. Jumpin Monkey is located on Memorial drive and is great for the kids.

But the most important thing is you have to get involved with a community to meet people. People will not come knocking on your door asking you to be friends. You really have to get out there and introduce yourself. Good Luck! BTW, I have a 1 year old and a 2 year old and I'm a SAHM. Let me know if you have any questions about kids in the area (pediatricians, preschools, etc).

There is a club for newcomers from up north. It's called Northern Exposure. Check our local paper on line, www.reflector.com, for clubs and activities. Linda

Maybe that's www.dailyreflector.com. I'm not sure. Type Greenville newspaper into google and see what comes up. Good luck, Linda
