For those of you considering Wilmington...I have often spoke about infrastructure problems and the sewer system is one of them. Get ready for almost daily stories about sewage spills. See the latest:
WECT TV6 - WECT.com - Wilmington, NC news and weather - Sewage Leak Spills 3,000 Gallons

Oh yea...if you come by plane for a visit...you will be greeted by the lovely smell and eventually the sight of the facility. Yes...I guess some of the waste actually manages to make it there for processing from time to time.

Authorities say the spill was caused by a piece of lumber clogging a sewer line.

Yup, things happen sometimes. At least this spill was not an infrastructure issue. And with the major work nearing completion in the Bradley Creek area (home of the vast majority of Wilmington spills), my guess is that future spills will be related to unfortunate circumstances such as this.

Well I guess one can put it in the crime...traffic...or education category if one chooses...I would say infrastructure...but to each his or her own. By the way...is that Google on top of things or what...no sooner than I post this but what pops up...the all about wastewater link. LOL!

Ewww, the sewage link was in my neighborhood! I noticed the smell on Saturday and another neighbor actually discovered in on Sunday. I must say they were quick to respond (they were out there within 20 minutes). This does seem to happen a lot in Wilmington and it does seem that the problem has been addressed and they might be thinking of doing something about it (google New Hanover County, sewage leaks for more info). My grandfather, who lives in New Bern, says they have sewage leaks all the time there too. It is really scary!

I moved to the area 2 1/2 years ago, and this has been an almost daily story on the TV news the whole time I've been here.

Really making a lot of progress on those sewer problems:

I think the Wilmington sewer problems remind me of that commercial where the engineer puts his gum on a leak from the dam.
