I just returned to Michigan from the Morehead City area. dsobotta kindly gave us a tour of the area and suggested a place in Swansboro for lunch. It is called The Ice House. The food was great! I spoke to the owners (mike and randy) and inquired about a position there. I just recently sold my restaurant here and they were very helpful and interested to have me join their team. They also said that they are always looking for experienced people that are dependable and are willing to stay on after the college kids are gone. Try it. I think you'll like it.
It is a dock side restaurant and bar that I can tell gets a great deal of business in season. If you can keep up with the hectic pace I'm pretty sure you will make the money you seek.

That sandwich is my favorite. It is usually a very good meal.

It's 69 degrees Fahrenheit already this afternoon. Maybe we have seen the last of winter.

It's about 21 miles from Swansboro to Morehead City.

Here is a review I did of the Icehouse.

Smile Answer to Hiring

I'm not sure where you will find employment or which ones are hiring currently, but you should visit and have a look at these restaurants among others.

They are all nice restaurants and there are plenty of additional ones in the Morehead City area including places like Outback and Ruby Tuesdays, but we tend to go towards the local spots. I don't know the restaurants in Morehead City as well as I do in Beaufort & the Swansboro/Emerald Isle areas.

I have no idea what kind of employers any of these folks are, but I do know they serve very good food.

If you want to work in the restaurant business down here, I don't think getting a job is a problem.

Good luck.

We are also considering a move to the MC, Beaufort area. We have visited the area on vacation several times and love the small town atmosphere. I have a question about employment though. I am a new RN and my husband is a construction superintendent. Could anyone give us an idea about how difficult it would be to find jobs.

A nursing career should be easily obtained either at Carteret General, Craven Regional Medical Center, or at the numerous doctor offices in the area...You may want to check with the Veterans Administration about nursing positions at the local VA clinic in Morehead City...

Now the Construction Superintendant is another story...Not that it is impossible to secure a position, but would it be in Civil engineering, general construction, commercial construction, etc....His experience could land him a position at one of the local military bases either as a government worker, or as a contractor on all the new facilities being built around here....
