Our family is trying to move to this area. My husband is currently a civilian employee with the department of defense. We are just wondering how willing they are to hire out of staters. Do they normally only promote from withing. If anyone has been hired from out of state, it would be encouraging!

I know a few people who work at Camp Lejeune. I believe one was hired from out-of-state. She is in family support working for MCCS. I believe teachers are also hired for the DOD schools from out-of-state. (I know these are probably not the standard DOD civilian jobs.)

The others grew up in the area and have had their jobs since they started at the entry level. Another is a former military nurse, so I assume she received military preference.

I suspect they tend to hire from within, but I would not let that discourage your husband.
