Is there any secret airline I should look at for travel to and from Tampa with Wilmington? Wow, I looked on Kayak for a wednesday +/-3 days mid november and the cheapest one way was $600. wtf? What a drag because I know Allegiant does $40 one ways between Asheville NC and Tampa. Wondering if there is some secret to cheap travel between Wilmington and Florida?

You probably need to book earlier. Look into flying in/out of Myrtle Beach or Raleigh.

There is no secret except booking 3 months in advance. Wilmington is not a major market, and you have to go through Charlotte or Atlanta to get anywhere south or west. However, you might also try Myrtle Beach.

Southwest Airlines leaving from Raleigh to Tampa has about $343 in mid-November for business class. It has promotional RT fares at $129.

Strongly recommend driving up to Raleigh. Not that big a deal for probably significant savings.

I fly Allegiant back and forth from Raleigh to Tampa (not really Tampa, since it's St. Pete/Clearwater airport, 20-30 mins away from TIA if you figure traffic) for $42 each way, no luggage. That's as cheap as it gets.

Flights into and out of ILM have always been high.

Your best bet is to use an alternate airport.
