Default Moving to Jacksonville NC

My husband and I are in the Military and have recently recieved orders to Jacksonville nc. We are interested in buying a home in the area and have heard all kinds of advice but are still a little confused. We need to know about traffic and the best areas to live to avoid the bulk of this traffic. Many people have said the back gate is the least busy but no one seems to know the name of this gate. We are looking for a home in the direction of this "back gate" we hate traffic. I have looked at hubert and maysville as possible towns to buy in. We are first time buyers and have a limited budget of about 140,000. If anyone has any advice, or positive insight this would be helpful. Thank YOU

The "back gate" is the one on Hwy 172. It's most convenient to the Hubert/Swansboro areas. Home prices in Swansboro have really increased in the last couple of years... the basic "starter homes" in my neighborhood are selling for $160-175. Hubert prices have gone up as well. Get in touch with some of the area realtors and they can help you try to find something in your price range if you're looking to buy.

Traffic is going to be busy everywhere with the increase in size of the military base. Your best bet is to head down hwy 24 towards hubert or swansboro or to go out towards Richlands on Hwy 258. Some of the other areas that are growing quickly and have housing available just don't have the roads to support the number of people living in those areas... traffic is always heavy in those areas

Welcome to the area and good luck with your search.

The Hubert/172 area is a good option for you. But as you go from Hubert to Swansboro to Cedar Point and Cape Carteret the prices go up since you are getting closer to the beach areas.

We had Marine friends who bought near the airport on the road to Richlands. They find it very convenient, but it would not be back gate.

The homes in there are in your price range, and I think you would be comfortable in the area since the many of the people are military.

There are plenty of homes in the Hubert area, but finding one in your price range will take some work. It you would like the name of someone who specializes in that area, I'll be glad to recommend some folks for you. Just send me a private message.

Swansboro is about as far as I go in that direction but I do go to as far as Down East the other direction, but that doesn't do you any good.

We love the area, do a Google search for "Coastal NC Paradise" and you'll have lots of information

Smile Thank You

Just wanted to say thank you for the responses. We have friends that are hooking us up with a realtor. All good info on the gate. I also noticed the increase in prices closer to the beach.

Thanks again.

Forgot to mention that Sneads Ferry is also convenient to the back gate (the "other" back gate!). I'm not sure what the prices look like in that area though.

Also... I got info in the mail about home sales in my neighborhood over the past year. Average selling price was about $185k! So more than I realized

The Hubert area would certainly be convenient to the base. Last I heard, Hubert was really growing. In fact, you could say that the area was "booming". Good luck with your search.
