I used to live there years ago. The ECU campus is a great place to go walking. Also, a few blocks east of there, towards the end of 5th Street, is a little park with a stream running thru it. Then there is the river park just northeast of the downtown area.

There is also a bike trail northwest of town if you'd like to walk "off-road". We ride there but walkers are welcome:
