Star sightings in Wilmington (aka Wilmywood)? (Wrightsville Beach, Kelly: oceanfront, 2009, apartments)

I've heard from several people that Alicia Keys is currently in Wilmington. I think she is filming a movie. I was just wondering if anyone else had any celebrity sightings here in the Port City they wanted to share?

I personally, like to tell everyone about how I made Halle Berry's sandwich 10 years ago when she came into a sub shop I worked at near Wrightsville Beach. She was in town filming the movie "Introducing Dororty Dandridge". I also used to always run into Katie Holmes at the sushi and/or Mexican restarants (of course she wan't married to Tom Cruise back then) My most recent star sighting was shopping next to Kim Basinger at the Harris Teeter at Porters Neck this summer. Apparently she spends time at Figure Eight Island.

They filmed a movie in our neighborhood called The Face on the Milk Carton. Kelly Martin (ER) and Sharon Lawrence were in it so I saw them around a lot.

I saw Kirk Cameron downtown filming something once. I met Bryan Datillo (Lucas from Days of Our Lives) at an Azalea Festival Garden Party. I was behind Harry Hamlin (LA LAW) at the Food Lion at Landfall when he came in and asked for a baked chicken. He was wearing shorts and barefoot. Met John Travolta at the Oceanic in Wrightsville Beach where he was having dinner. He was filming Domestic Disturbance at the time. Oh yeah, almost forgot, my daughter was an extra in a movie with Terri Hatcher. They spent all day filming this scene on a school bus. Terri showed up at the end of the day and was walking around the set. This was during her Superman days.

Kevin Federline was around this summer. People were saying that he's actually a really nice guy. Julia Stiles was allegedly here as well.

While it is quite true that a number of celebs work the Wilmington area, a good number of them do not stay in the Wilmington area. They will take the ferry over to Bald Head Island. The people on Bald Head do not ask for autographs and will generally not strike up a conversation. Occassionally I have overheard, "aren't you?" the person nodded her head, "I thought so, enjoy your stay" and walked off. Nothing protracted, no autograph seeking. I've had several people in line behind me at Eb and Flo's, knew who they were, so did almost every one else in the room, and no one approached them. On Bald Head it would be considered Gauche. Probably why they stay there.

I can definitely see why celebrities would find appeal in staying on Bald Head..I've only been there once, but it was definitely amenable to privacy.

I would feel really stupid approaching anyone famous and asking for an autograph- but then, I think autographs are pretty pointless anyway, what do I want with a scribble of someone's name?? I probably wouldn't even do the "Aren't you...?" bit. I'm the way with celebrities that I am in general with the average person- kind of reserved until I get to know you, and I keep to myself. There are probably a (small) handful of people I'd be a starstruck idiot about, though, have to admit it. If only they'd come to Wilmington. I've never seen anyone in Wilmington, I saw Michelle Williams in New York, and wow, is she cute as a bug, tiny, and so pretty. I wasn't really a Dawson's Creek fan but thought it was neat it was filmed in Wilmington. I always heard that most of the cast were not fond of living in Wilmington- does anyone know where they actually did live while filming? (What area, apartments, oceanfront mansion, or whatever?)

fortysixandtwo, classic. you saw ricky meeks? was he walking down market listening to his ipod or did you see him on the bus? only person I have seen is one of the gallagher brothers from oasis. but if you are out enough, you can see a lot of people. my room mate saw mel gibson at the scotchman when they filmed the patriot.

dude, it was in 1999 when I saw them down here! that was probably back when they had work. I think meeks would do a better job than the current city council.
