directions to greenville (Rocky Mount, Wilson, Washington: to relocate, deal, area)

we are planning a visit to Greenville mid may and would like to know if there are any less stressful ways to get there....and the best times to leave . we will be coming from Syracuse (NY so we will start with going 81South. if possible is there a way to bypass Washington, or I95? we are hoping to make it there in about 10.5 hours and we will be leaving early sunday morning. coming back north we don't want to hit bad traffic either, so any ideas you may have will help us out. thank you !
PS - hoping to relocate there Also, places you recommend visiting, etc?? unfortunately we will only be there for 3 nights.
My wife is from La Fayette so we do this drive a lot.
Go 81 south but instead of taking 83 to DC in Harrisburg keep on 81. Take 81 through PA, MD, and WVA until your're in Virginia to a place called Winchester. Get off of Exit 313 (US 50 East, US 17 South)and keep on Hwy 17 South until you get to Fredrickbrug o I-95. You would at this point pass through most of the DMW traffic.
Take 95 all the way to NC until you get to exit 138 (US 64 East) in Rocky Mount and take US 64 to exit 496 (US 13 South, NC 11 South) in Bethel. US 13 South and NC 11 South take you straight to Greenville

This. I would also recommend OP use I-295 to bypass Richmond and Petersburg and reconnect with I-95 just south of Petersburg. Richmond traffic can be pretty bad at times.
You may also consider just staying on 95 (passing the Rocky Mount exit) to the 264 bypass exit in Wilson and then just follow 264 into Greenville. That's interstate quality (70 MPH) the whole way, whereas 11 from Bethel to Greenville is not. Also brings you into the Hospital area rather than north Greenville which has more lights to deal with.

Yeah but that adds 20 mins to the drive. You start further away from Greenville if you went to Wilson. Even tho the last leg between Bethel and Greenville isn't interstate, it's still a 4 lane 55 MPH highway with very little traffic. Also there still lights coming out that way too going into Greenville.

Nope...done it many times. With the bypass you end up at the Hospital at least 5 minutes faster. Can set the cruise at 75 or so the whole way.
I've noticed NCHP has gotten bad on 95 near VA/NC border in the past year or so. Obviously nothing like Virginia Troopers, but as bad as you'll probably see in NC.
