Hi! We are thinking about moving from South Carolina some day and relocate north. What is the major and number one hospital in Wilmington NC? We are almost near total retirement age. Thanks.

BTW. Does anyone know about Jacksonville? I am a military and a federal retiree.

I live between Wilmington and Jacksonville. Wilmington has New Hanover Regional, and Jacksonville has Onslow Memorial. Both are decent, but New Hanover Regional is probably better with more specialities.

I had outpatient cataract surgery at New Hanover's surgical center and had excellent care.

For really specialized care or experimental therapy, people go to Duke or UNC.

New Hanover Regional Medical Center is tops............They also have a women's & Children's hospital on campus, as well as the Zimmer Cancer center. Both are staffed with first rate doctors, nurses and lab services, as well as everything in between.

New Hanover Regional is actually a Level II Trauma Center. Vidant Medical Center in Greenville is the only Level 1 Trauma Center east of I-95.

As a Level II Trauma Center, NHRMC's emergency department is equipped to provide emergency care for critically injured patients.
