Hubby and I relocating from the DC area. He is BM and I WF and have been together for almost 25 years. So somewhere a little more accepting of interracial couples is necessary and on one of the other forums, these cities were suggested.
Our kids are grown so schools are not important and in a perfect world we would like to move into an area with older (40-50 year old) people.
I am an RN so I need somewhere where I can get a job either in the hospital or doctor office setting and hubby does anything from warehouse work to administrative duties.
Our plan is to visit these areas in August (thought we would really get the true feel of the dog days of summer then). But I would really appreciate any thoughts anyone has. Thanks in advanced.

Of the three cities, only New Bern has a significant number of retirees, so its average population age is older. Greenville has a younger population of students, and Jacksonville has a younger population of Marines and their spouses.

New Bern is a charming town, but is smaller size will limit the job possibilities. However, one could have a long commute into either of the larger cities if needed for a job. I'd suggest that finding the jobs is the first priority. If the husband has military experience, Camp Lejeune might have options. New Bern also has the Bosch Home Appliance plant for warehousing options. Kenansville also has a large textile operation, Guilford Mills, as well as medical facilities.

Near New Bern is the separate town of River Bend, which has the older demographic you are seeking. From there, one could commute to Jacksonville in 40 minute or to Greenville in about 1 hour.

You might also look into Wilmington, but be aware that the housing is more expensive than the other choices.
