Husband and I were riding around in Swansboro, checking out housing in the Charleston development off of 24, a week ago while on vacation to the Crystal Coast. We were disappointed to see what appeared to us to be mold, showing up on the exterior siding of many of the homes in this development. Can anyone shed any light on this? Something that happens often in the weather conditions along coastal areas? Or just plain bad construction in this development? Thanks much.

It's dry pollen stains. It can be washed off, just a matter of people being too lazy to do so.

Happens on the north side of homes mostly. Just need to pressure wash it.

It is actually mildew that forms on the north side of homes. You will notice it more on lighter shades of aluminum siding. Pressure washing takes care of it. It is because of our humid 24/7 summers.
