I'm moving from Florida to North Carolina. Considering Elizabeth City but am wondering about the commute from there to Norfork, plus I'm concerned about the area and schools since I have a 5 year old. Any suggestions of a better city or info on Elizabeth City?
Hi rainsong. Just curious as to how you picked Elizabeth City? Unfortunately, I cannot answer any of your questions as I am little further south. Hopefully, some folks in the Elizabeth City area will chime in. Good luck!
We heard from some other people that are stationed in Norfolk that we might like Elizabeth City, it's seems to be more like the area that we're used to
I'm not from NC or VA but visited a friend in Elizabeth City a few years ago on a scouting mission. The town seems very quiet; and you have drive about 45 minutes to get to the nearest mall. There are stores like Lowes in Elizabeth City. We ate in several good restaurants, but didn't see much else to do there unless they added to the downtown area.
The road that we took in from VA was very deserted and had dangerous road signs posted most of the way. It was not for me. Would prefer commuting from Williamsburg area even on crazy RT 64 to Norfolk.
Right now we are considering Winston-Salem/Greensboro or Charleston SC.
If your looking for a nice place and a close commute to norfolk then i would suggest Currituck county NC. Nice county and close to the beach and boarders Va. Taxes are really lower than other areas around it. I wouldn't recomend Eliz city. To much crime and to me its run down. Yes they are building new stuff but you can find out about it for yourself on line and i am sure others will chime in . Don't get me wrong there are a couple of nice areas but the rest hmmmm not for me.
