Thanks all. Citi-Data is such a huge help for us re-locators. (Flamingo13 - that was a typo - Havelock)
I am looking into the Havelock/Craven County area for a relocation (my company has many offices so the pick is up to me).
I would be looking for a 3-4 bd home, schools and crime are a high priority, would like to be reasonably close to grocery, retail. I have lived in city neighborhoods and country neighborhoods, I guess my choice would be somewhere in between that leaning a tiny bit to the country side of that without being too remote.
Any suggested areas I can start the in-person search?
Thanks again all, you are a wealth of knowledge and more helpful than you realize.
My options are open but my preferences would be near to or east of 95, not too far south (mid to north NC). I plan on scoping NC out in person in May before making a decision on location so I am trying to get a game plan started now and gather some data before I get there. Thank you.

Havelock is not, in my opinion, a particularly attractive area to live in. New Bern isn't too bad, but the schools aren't very good. Carteret County Schools are a little better, you might wan to look there. You can research schools here:
It appears that may be a little too close to the shoreline for my comfort. I lived in CT on the shore and was wiped out by Sandy a number of years ago. Not looking to live through that again, thank you very much.
Thanks for the suggestion however.
Any other counties in the roundabout area that would be a good place to search?

Have to disagree, Tucker Creek Middle School, on the New Bern side of Havelock, is a very good school.
