There is a lot going on in terms of Wilmington hotels, so I thought I'd create a thread for it.

A Marriott Courtyard opened downtown a year or so ago.

A Hampton Inn across the street from the Courtyard downtown is opening in April 2017

An Embassy Suites is currently under construction on the Riverfront downtown, attached to the Convention Center.

It is scheduled to open in fall 2017

An Aloft Hotel is scheduled to be open between the Embassy Suites and the Best Western on the riverfront in January 2019

A Westin hotel is scheduled to open in 2021 along Military Cutoff Rd (near Wrightsville Beach).

Indigo is planned on the marina property, but I'm not sure what that timeline is.

Really hope some of these are pet friendly with a reasonable fee (Marriott's $75 fee is not...).

Would think most new hotels would not be...but the construction of them usually pushes some older hotels to become more pet friendly.

Yes, planned is a key word there. I don't know all of the details, but I believe the design and city approval was complete, but the financing wasn't there...as far back as 2010. The City demolished the vacant building on the site it was originally proposed and I believe put a lien on the property. They needed to do this because it was going to hurt convention business with the newly opened convention center.

My understanding is the developer of the marina property didn't own that parcel and submitted all the plans, etc...as part of buying it, but the deal fell through because of the hotel financing. Last I heard, the marina property was supposed to have apartments built next (after the restaurants are complete) and then the hotel would come.

Someone else may have more info on it.
