Hello All-

Will be visiting Wilmington in mid-April and would like to get a general feel for the area; the good, the bad and the ugly (well actually, not too much of that). Can you recommend some places to go and see that will help with that, particularly the beach scene? We're planning on staying in the city proper, so any suggestions around that would be appreciated as well.

Thanks much!

Are you visiting in preparation for moving to Wilmington?

Best beaches to visit are Wrightsville Beach and Carolina Beach. Be sure to visit Britt's Doughnuts in CB. The Azalea Festival is April 5-9, if you're here then its a fun time. Definitely spend some time walking around downtown...lots of beautiful old houses, a riverwalk and places to eat and shop.

More input on the reason for your visit and things you like to do would help guide suggestions.

Thanks, BC1960...the visit is not so much in preparation of moving, though perhaps somewhere in the back of my mind. It's more an interest in moderate-sized coastal Southern cities, which Wilmington is one of to me (others: Charleston, Savannah, Jacksonville). Your suggestions are helpful, those are the kinds of things I was looking for. Thanks-

Ok. Other things you might want to check out are the Cameron Art Museum, the NC Aquarium at Ft. Fisher, Ft. Fisher State Historic Site, the Battleship North Carolina, Arlie Gardens, Wilmington Railroad Museum, and the Cape Fear Museum.
